Achille Maramotti

Achille was born into a family with close ties to fashion, as his great-grandmother ran a custom-made high-end women's clothing store and his mother founded a dressmaking school.

After working as a lawyer until his 40s, he conceived a fashion business specializing in coats. With the mission of "transforming men's coats into iconic items for women," he started a business that could mass-produce haute couture-like coats by blending Italian tailoring techniques with trends, and in 1959, he established the Max Mara factory.

He overturned the perception rooted in Italy at the time that "fashion is about handmade craftsmanship" and gained support from women ahead of their time.
