Achille Maramotti
Achille was born into a family with close ties to fashion, where his great-grandmother ran a luxury bespoke women's clothing store and his mother founded a dressmaking school.
After working as a lawyer until his 40s, he conceived of a fashion business specializing in coats. With the mission to "transform men's coats into iconic items for women," he started a business that combined Italian tailoring techniques with trends to mass-produce haute couture-like coats, establishing the Max Mara factory in 1959.
He overturned the prevailing notion in Italy at the time that "fashion is artisanal," and gained support from women ahead of their time.
